“I have been painting and drawing all my life – it’s what I do and who I am.”
Theresa Shaw’s love of art stemmed from her mother, who being an artist used to draw beautiful and elegant images that she could colour in at bedtime – even now she says she loves a new pack of felt-tip pens!
Theresa was born in Nottingham and her earliest artistic memories are of throwing paint, Jackson Pollock-style, at a large piece of paper in infant’s school, over and over again. Following the birth of her 2 children she retrained as a teacher, eager to pass on her knowledge and love of painting, teaching ages from 6 to 96. Theresa relocated to Devon in 2009 to begin a new chapter of her life in this beautiful part of the country. At present she is absorbed in the use of acrylic inks for their brilliant colour and incredible fluidity help her to create truly individual pieces of artwork that reflect how she feels about beauty and life. Theresa is also experimenting with lino-cuts, resin and perspex. Theresa is an artist who loves to work with vibrant colour, strong shapes and multi-layered images.
Theresa has exhibited and sold many pieces of art over the last 2 decades – her work resides in private collections all over the world including Canada, Singapore, USA and of course the UK.
As she continues to push her work in different directions, trying new methods and ideas, Theresa will always remain inspired by the natural world and attempting to express that in a unique and personal way.
