Julien Hatswell

Born 1968.

For over 20 years, I’ve painted a variety of subjects in my favourite medium of oils. This collection of paintings and sculpture mark a new path for me, an evolution from earlier styles and subjects of Surrealism imbued with Symbolism and Gothic.

The importance of atmosphere is uppermost in my paintings, expressing a hinterland of the imagination for the viewer to escape within. The intention is to uplift and create a vision to transport the observer into a state of peaceful reverie. The paintings’ source of light often symbolise hope or life, the intention being for the viewer to ponder origin and stimulate the imagination.

The Sculptures are expressions of natures beauty, fused with my love of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, finding flow in the subjects lines and creating flux in the piece. The sculptures are all limited editions, reproduced and hand finished by me. These paintings and sculptures represent a simpler more abstract presentation of ideas, the progress of a middle aged artist who’s passion is to create and make his thoughts tangible.
