Jackie is a Devon based artist who loves to create modern textile artworks rich in texture and pattern using an assortment of materials including fabric, vintage maps and twine to name a few. She uses layers of fabric and embellishes the scene using free motion embroidery and applique. Each piece is full of fine detail which engages viewers and encourages them to look further.
Her land and seascapes are inspired by the beaches and towns of the glorious Southwest and in particular Devon, where she lives. Famous landmarks from cities around the world also fire her imagination. Her naive style of art allows her to play with composition and perspective and therefore create unique interpretations of places and scenes. She believes that any place or anything can be interpreted in fabric and intends to spend many years attempting this! Each piece can take weeks to produce and this time includes not just creating it, but also research, photography and sourcing of materials.
Jackie believes her work appeals to people who love life, colour and creativeness. “My colourful quirky style comes from a desire to create art that makes people feel happy – I find it hugely satifsying when my work brings a smile”.
Since turning professional in 2013 she has seen rising success attracting wide interest nationally and internationally. In early 2014 she was nominated for ‘Best Up & Coming Published Artist’ by the Fine Art Trade Guild of London. She recently held her first month long solo exhibition in July at the prestigious Devonport Guildhall in Plymouth.
